Job Bank is a web based database of job vacancies
- it's another way of advertising jobs. Many job
banks are US based or focus on IT positions. The
selection listed below is chosen for its breadth
of coverage in terms of geography and range of
vacancies.
Many of the job banks have 'job agents' where
you can register your criteria and e-mail address
so that vacancies are emailed to you as they are
added to the database. This is a great time-saver
and worth spending some time setting up. Most
sites also offer other features such as CV registration,
assessment tests and articles.
CareerBuilder
CareerBuilder
has taken over Career Mosaic and Headhunter.net.
The focus of the company has shifted back to the
US and their UK offering is not as comprehensive
as it once was. CareerBuilder has details of jobs
in the US, Canada, Asia and UK with other countries
covered to a lesser degree. Still useful for locating
roles from major international employers. Click
'International Jobs' at the bottom of the screen
to get to the UK search criteria.
FlipDog
locates vacancies advertised on employer's own
websites. At any one time, they have details of
over 300,000 jobs from around the world - mainly
from the US but generally good global covered.
When we checked, there were over 15,000 UK jobs
on offer from a range of employers. Got to Find
Jobs and 'Jobs by Country' to locate UK search

First Division Jobs
Recruitment
consultants use this site to advertise around
5,000 jobs at any time. Covers secretarial,
IT, catering, accounts, administration, sales

Choose
between US or UK and permanent or contract positions.
There are around 100,000 jobs from over 9,000
agencies in the database and these can be filtered
by sector, date advertised and keywords. Vacancies
tend to be in the fields of IT, finance and sales.

wide range of job areas including more unusual
sector breakdowns such as: airport, care support,

searching as you can search within a certain radius

A
number of recruiters submit jobs to this site
- an A-Z list is provided with the number of vacancies
each recruiter has live. There are around 15,000
live vacancies at any one time and the site handles
over 60,000 jobs a month. Particularly strong
on middle management positions which can be searched
by keyword, date, permanent or contract, location,

Monster
The
largest and longest established job bank - set
up in the US in 1994 and previously known as The
Monster Board, Monster.com claims to advertise
the most vacancies on a global scale with around
1,000,000 vacancies worldwide. Around 80%
of roles are US based with an average of 20,000
UK vacancies - almost half of all roles are IT
related. However, whilst it may not necessarily
be the largest job bank in the UK, Monster's reputation
attracts a wide range of quality employers and
it's certainly worth a look.
Provide options to search by region, industry/function,
full-time/part-time, temporary or contract work
together with keyword searching. The regions may
look a little strange - Monster have actually
split the UK up in terms of television regions!
There is also a separate search page for Scotland
or you can expand your search to Europe or other
countries/continents.
Consider setting up 'My Monster' - an automated
job search agent which emails jobs matching your
specified criteria to you and saves you having
to browse the site regularly.
Lots of other useful features such as employer
profiles with online brochures, a CV builder,

newmonday
This
site is a pan-European joint venture between VNU,
a leading international publishing group, and
Randstad, a global staffing and recruitment firm.
They operate sites in the UK, Belgium and The
Netherlands. Vacancies are split into the following
categories: IT, Telecoms or Engineering, Marketing
or PR, Consultancy, Finance or Accountancy, HR
or Recruitment, Sales and Education. The site
is particularly strong on public sector roles.

Peoplebank
One
of the first UK job banks. Holds jobs for a month
and has around 1,000 jobs at any one time. Best
for junior to middle management jobs around £20-50k.
Merged with Workthing in 2001 but still operating

Reed
The
UK's largest recruitment company with an impressive
database of over 100,000 jobs across all sectors.
Note that not all jobs are actually being handled
by Reed's office network as they offer advertising
for companies recruiting directly too. Useful
tools including the option to have latest jobs

TopJobs
Started
in 1996, this is one of the longest established
UK job banks, TopJobs offers a wide selection
of middle management and senior roles. Select
the country you wish to search and select jobs
by country, main functional area with option for
sub-sector, region, date range and keyword.
With around 1,500 jobs at anytime, the focus is
on quality not quantity.

that TopJobs has gone into liquidation. We are
not sure what the outcome will be but as they
are still taking new advertising, we will keep
